Courses

We are currently testing an application which will allow summer schools, colleges and other institutions to add  courses, study days and other educational events to an interactive calendar.

In the meantime we are listing courses in plain text form, organized by country in alphabetical order, with courses listed in order of the date that the courses begin.  See below.  At the moment we only have courses for the UK, so we have only one national heading but please feed in your courses for any country and we will add them!

If you think that you might want to use this facility please contact us and give us the course details.  We will post them here on your behalf.  Please use the format shown below (Title, Tutors/Speakers, Type, Dates, Venue, Cost, Contact Details, Description if available and website address if available).

Title: Egypt: ’Digging Diaries’ – For the Love of Egypt
Tutor:
This course is presented for the Mercia Egyptology Society by Angela Torpey.  The accompanying website is maintained by Brian Yare.
Dates:  Tuesday 3 May until 28 June 2011 at 19:00 or Friday 6 May until 1 July 2011 at 11:00 (9 meetings).
The course meets for 2 hours each week, and interacts at other times via its active website.
Location: Xcel Centre, Mitchell Avenue, Coventry CV4 8DY (off Charter Avenue) (nr. University of Warwick Westwood Site)
Details:
When we think of excavation in Egypt, we think of excavations which become icons in archaeology such as the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun, but in any season there are a large number of missions, both local and foreign, operating quietly throughout Egypt. Each week, this course will focus on one or two recent ‘digs’, bringing together the known and documented history of the excavation or survey site with the newly available material, linking it to the wider history of the country. Excavation sites will be throughout the Nile Valley and the Delta and also if appropriate in the Oases. Time periods will reflect Egypt’s long and varied history. Whether in class or via the resources section of Mercia Egyptology Society, links to the missions’ own internet resources will be provided, and where possible, relevant photographs and site plans will be made available. Class discussion and students’ own photographs will also be valued aspects to the course. Come and discover something of Egypt’s rich and varied archaeology and the amazing excavation material both past and present.
Cost:
£54.00
