‘Egyptian Mummies and Modern Science: The Investigation of Takabuti, a Lady of Thebes’.
The mummy of Takabuti, a young woman who lived and died in Egypt some 3,000 years ago, was brought to Belfast in the 1800s, and has recently been the subject of a multidisciplinary investigation undertaken by scientists in Belfast, Manchester, Cardiff and Dundee. The lecture will describe this work, featured in a major television documentary, and will show how it has thrown new light on Takabuti’s life and death.
